There were “4 Gods” at Oyama dojo, who were Sensei Ishibashi, Sensei Yasuda, Sensei Kurosaki and Sensei Minamoto. Those four Karate masters had learned different styles at other dojos. But they came and get together at Oyama dojo because they were so attracted by Master Oyama’s character and skills. While joining Oyama dojo, they taught Karate as instructors, but what they taught was their own style, not Oyama Karate yet.
So-shihan Watanabe described their Kumite styles.
Sensei Ishibashi
Described his kumite style with those 4 words which are “hardness”, “softness”, “brilliant”, and “elegance”. He moved like willow, but it turned to a whip when he attacked.
Sensei Yasuda
He was the strongest Senpai and he was the only one, So-shihan Watanabe who could not overcome. His kumite was very furious and stinging but when he turned to defense, they were so soft and gentle. It was like “Sabaki”! and much softer than Sensei Ishibashi.
